Titanium and Black Zirconium Information

Sizing Information

Sizing is very important with a Titanium ring although some of the designs can be resized by 1 – 1.5 sizes it is not a metal that can be cut through to reduce in size or have metal added to significantly increase the size. 

Sizing is generally limited to rings that are either plain or have separated finishes.  Some Titanium rings with heavily engraved designs can be resized we can advise you on which styles.

Titanium rings with Diamonds or Titanium inlaid with Gold cannot be resized.

 

 

Sizing Black or Relieved Black Zirconium Rings 

It is very important that the size is correct as generally sizing or alteration to these rings is not possible.

The Black surface is so hard that any stretching or compression will crack the surface ruining the ring.

 

In order to get the perfect fit we recommend you come into the shop to try the rings on, if your unable to visit our shop we can provide sizing guidance by phone.

 

Titanium which is commercially pure and hypoallergenic, so it is ideal for anyone who has any allergies to wearing other types of Jewellery.  The advantages of Titanium are that it is lightweight and it’s tensile strength is excellent.

Like other items of jewellery it is not a scratch proof, metals such as Steel or natural minerals can scratch or scuff a Titanium ring. Titanium can be refinished if necessary simple scuffs and scratches can usually be polished out.

 

Black Zirconium is a metal very similar to Titanium and it has identical characteristics in that it is also lightweight, hypoallergenic and its tensile strength is excellent.  In it’s natural and unfinished form Zirconium is almost the colour of Titanium.

One advantage is that you can heat treat the Natural Zirconium which creates a Black Oxide layer on the surface and therefore creates the Black Zirconium Ring.

This oxide layer is the equivalent of Sapphire hardness 9 on the MOHS scale which means to physically scratch or remove the Black layer it must be something harder than this for example steel.

The Polished finish gives a deep glossy Black look whereas the Brushed finish gives a lighter Grey Black finish.

 

Custom Engraving

Custom engraving is also available on all rings inside. Outside engraving is dependent on any existing design and available on most rings, please contact us to discuss your requirements. 

Custom Engraving can be anything from a date, handwriting from a loved one, sound waves, baby hand or footprint, paw or nose prints. For custom pieces we require the image preferably in Jpeg form. For images like hand or paw prints this can be achieved by using a suitable ink pad and then scanning the image, we can scan the image if your unable to.
